About 40 minutes before kick stands up and Gary is already warming his bike up, and I haven't even taken the pajamas off of mine.

30 minutes to go and Gary is staged. At least my pajamas are off.

A very clever and functional wheel chair carrier.

This is a very diverse group of riders that all have their own pace of comfort.

As a result we have several planned stops where we regroup.

This regrouping stop is called the Artist Pallet

I'm surprised to see less water than any other visit I have made to this place.

Especially with all of the rain they have  been having

Normally both side of that boardwalk is covered in water.

Do you see that little sign half way up that cliff?

It says Sea Level. Badwater sits at -282' while just fifty miles away is the highest peak in the lower 48 states.

I had a great lunch with this Crow at the Crowbar.

There is always a couple of hours of visiting with the speedy service at the Crowbar.

Maybe a little bragging going on during those visits.

And sometimes a little reality check. :)

My bike sure makes this place look good.

In all of the years I've been coming to this event, this is the first time I noticed that this is the actual Sheriff's office. I had notice and unusually high number of Sheriff vehicles before but always thought they were just keeping tabs on us tough bikers.

So much color in this barren land

You are looking at all of the salt in the Badwater Basin from 5000' above.

Those specks are all people walking out to check out the salt. When they get back to real land it's fun to watch them stomp their feet trying to get all of the clumped salt off of their shoes before they get in their cars.

I saw these for the first time today while riding up to Dante's Peak. I believe they must be housing for an active mining operation.

It almost looks like they were built on top of the mine tailings

I think it is an old headrig, but it could still be active.

Beatty isn't such a beautiful town, but it sure sits in a beautiful valley.
